What is Empty Bowls?
Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement by artists and crafts people in cities and towns around the world to raise money for food related charities to care for and feed the hungry in their communities.
Foothills Food Bank has participated and hosted an Empty Bowls event for more than the last decade. Our community loves this event that has grown so much over the years.
Sonoran Arts League’s connection to local artists provides us with the donated ceramic, wood, and glass bowls to be sold. The profits from the bowl and food wristband sale will support Foothills Food Bank journey to a new facility to reach more people in need.
This year is very exciting because we are going to expand upon the normal set up of this event to include sponsored food booths, artist demonstrations, beer/wine garden, live music, and the empty bowl sale.
Food - Our goal is to provide “One Pot Wonder” food booths showcasing chefs and their businesses/restaurants. The One Pot Wonder theme can be anything from soup to stew to chili – the more creative the better! We want to provide a variety of options to really showcase a tasting experience.
Those who want to eat will purchase a wristband that gives them a sample from each booth.
In the next few months, we will work to presale tickets to have a better idea how many attendees to plan for. We anticipate appx 200-250 individuals but with presale opportunity this year it could increase participation.
I understand the goal is huge, but I believe through the invaluable partnerships and community engagement we can make this the best Empty Bowls yest and get Foothill’s Food Bank one step closer to a new facility that’s going to impact the community for years to come.
Let me know your thoughts and if you think anyone would be interested in participating?
Thank you for your time and support.
